Barbie Loved the Flowers in Rosh Pinna

Barbie's favorite time was probably the morning we spent in the historic area of Rosh Pinna, which boasts the most gorgeous flowers we've ever seen.

The view overlooking the fields below was phenomenal.

Don't touch those sabras, Barbie! They're prickly!

Barbie in Jerusalem

We shared our ice cream at the Jerusalem Zoo.

We got to Jerusalem in the middle of a heat wave, but of course Barbie had to button up in modest clothing, anyway!

Barbie at the Western Wall

The biggest excitement came when we visited the Western Wall. Barbie actually got to climb right up and have a seat! (Okay, so technically that is the southwestern corner of the Temple Mount, but it's still pretty cool, huh?)

Look, a Barbie-scale model of Jerusalem during second-Temple times at the Israel Museum!

Barbie Sees the Desert

I love her camera. It's circa 1982 or so,
but it still looks good (just think
digital instead of regular film).

We traveled by tour bus, so Barbie got to see the Negev desert in air conditioned comfort.

Don't lose your adorable yellow sneaker, Barbie!

Barbie's Israel Vacation

Don't forget your passport, Barbie!

Gosh, it's been weeks since we've gotten back from vacation, and I am only now getting to post some of my pics. Don't forget your passport, Barbie! (How come I had to get a new passport after only ten years, but Barbie's had hers for nearly 30?)

I love Barbie's travel socks (actually Ken's socks
from the original Barbie and the Rockers!).

We had to change planes at Newark, but Barbie didn't mind. See how cheerful she is, waving? That's because I had to schlep all the luggage.

Barbie's first view of Israel: El Al planes on the tarmac. It had been a long flight, but the journey was just beginning!

Barbie, strolling

And she thought she was going to get away!

I caught her just as she was about to walk out of frame.

Dream a Little Dream of House

By now, everyone in the Barbie world should have read my partner-in-blog's hub about the history of the Barbie Dream House. Sometimes that woman is so thorough, it's scary! Anyway, I supplied her with a pic of my Dream House, circa 1980, that I have kept through at least five moves (and obviously more than 30 years). We rebuilt it two years ago for my daughter, who appreciated the sentiment more than the actual house.

It now resides in the playroom, functioning as a repository for random dolls, clothes, and furniture.

When my daughter was younger, I used to try to interest her in playing with my old dolls by telling her stories of the mischief the dolls would get up to while she was asleep. I'm not sure exactly what these dolls have been up to, but it must have been one hell of a party.

Seriously -- who rides a motorcycle into the second story of a house? And who is strong enough to upend a treadmill on top of it? Maybe Ken is suffering from 'roid rage. He seems to have gone through several dazed and naked Barbies, too. I swear, the next time I hear strange noises in the playroom, I'm going to catch them at it!

Sexually Active Barbie

Barbie may not be pregnant, but she sure gets hers!
If Mattel has never made a Postcoital Barbie, they ought to. Look at how she glows!

Pregnant Midge, Angel

With the stitched hair still flat against her back and what appears to be a halo floating above her freckled face, Pregnant Midge could pose as an angel for Michelangelo.

But it would have to be a naked angel.  Except for the painted-on white bikini panties.

A date with Ken Bieber

What did you say, Hula Honey?  Ahh, you've decided what to wear.
Shut the front door!  Ken is going to Bieber dumbfounded by your beauty. Take it easy on him, Hula.  The first time, at least . . .

A Suitable Suitor for Hula Honey

Who's at the door? Why, it's Ken Bieber! And he's wearing Tropical Ken's shorts and lei, circa 1985! Well, Hula Honey, here's your man.

What's that? You brought a gift for your date, Ken? A giant pineapple? Isn't that . . . something. Have a nice time on your date, you guys!

Pssst, Ken -- you know she's totally out of your league, man. Next time try flowers and chocolate, at least. And dude -- bulk up your thighs a little. They're not supposed to be smaller than your calves!

West is best!

Since my partner in crime theclevercat published such a lovely hub about her collectible Western pinup Barbie yesterday, I thought that perhaps I ought to lighten the mood by showing some photos of my own Western pinup Barbie -- that is, Western Barbie, circa 1981 (the Dolly Parton in the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas era). Unfortunately, that Barbie had to be put down after her eye became stuck in winking position and it made her look like she'd had a stroke. Yet some of her accoutrements survive. Note her fancy inscribed boots and her durable rubbery cowgirl hat.

I had a horse for her to ride, as well, but I'll save pics of that for another day. (This horse was awesome, and believe it or not, I've still got almost all the tack! Also a mystery winch that I can't remember the origin of, but I used to make the horse pull all the time. Poor Dallas! You were not meant to be a draft horse!)

I loved the heck out of that doll, even after her jumpsuit split down the front and exposed her Dolly Partonish proportions to the world. I no longer have the jumpsuit, but I have something nearly as good — Golden Barbie dressed in a (yup, you guessed it) golden version of Western Barbie's outfit — in paper doll form! Enjoy!
